Lake Walk
Situated at 1756 meters above sea level, Lake Misurina is 1 km long and 300 meters wide, with a maximum depth of 5 meters. Walking around the lake is the best way to admire it: it’s a pleasant walk suitable for everyone, including families with children. It takes 30 minutes to complete the walk, or an hour at a leisurely pace, with numerous panoramic views along the way that make the walk feel much longer. The path around the lake is mostly a flat dirt road with some gentle ups and downs, making it suitable for trekking strollers. You can park your car 200 meters from the Col de Varda chairlift.
Tre Cime di Lavaredo Scenic Road
For many visitors, Misurina is a stop on the way to the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, one of the Dolomites’ top attractions. The scenic road to Rifugio Auronzo, the starting point of the Tre Cime Tour, begins here. The road is tolled and busy in summer, so many prefer to hike from Misurina to Rifugio Auronzo via trails running parallel to the road.

Lake Misurina’s Legend
Misurina is the highest village in Auronzo di Cadore. Its name means “meso ai rin” (in the middle of the streams). According to legend, the lake was formed by the tears of King Sorapiss, who watched helplessly as his beloved daughter Misurina died. The tragedy occurred after the king agreed to be transformed into a mountain so his capricious daughter could obtain a magic mirror. Misurina, at the top of the mountain, fell and died during the transformation.

Book well in advance to secure a spot, or find accommodations a few kilometers away, including hotels, B&Bs, apartments, and holiday homes.
